Adventure Conservation SUMMER camps for kids and teenagers
Location: Ithaca, NY
Note: this adventure conservation camp is done in Partnership with water-sports shop Paddle-N-More.
This 7-day program is based on the principles of the environmental organization Plastic Tides. We combine adventure and science through SUP research expeditions to raise awareness about plastic pollution. Our research efforts are paired with a professional media strategy to inform public opinion and effect positive social change. In this program students become Plastic Tides ambassadors during a week-long experiential learning opportunity as they gain the skills necessary for SUP based conservation. Campers develop expedition-planning skills to design their own trip. Following the program students have the opportunity to continue with Plastic Tides as Junior Ambassadors, who in 2015 worked with local lawmakers to BAN THE BEAD, helping enact legislation to keep plastic microbeads from cosmetics out of our precious local waterways!
Instructors: Plastic Tides co-founders Christian Shaw and Gordon Middleton, Cornell University alumni. Christian is a certified ACA SUP Instructor and Red Cross Wilderness & Remote First Aid practitioner.
